To the Environment Minister, Edwin Poots,

We are concerned about the quality of Our Rivers and other water bodies in Northern Ireland. The European Water Framework Directive requires that our rivers and other water bodies achieve Good Ecological Status by 2015. We are concerned that not enough effort has been made to ensure that this will happen, subjecting Northern Ireland to the risk of future infraction proceedings.

As our Environment Minister, we are calling upon you to ensure the following:

1. The provision of information about the condition of our local water bodies that is easy to find and easy to understand.
2. Detailed local plans of action are prepared which are specific to our local rivers and water bodies and that set out how good quality status will be achieved by 2015.
3. Mechanisms are put in place to allow us to have a say and to get involved in helping to improve the quality of Our Rivers and water bodies so they can be enjoyed by everyone.
